Michael Jackson "Suit of Lights" Glove Up For Sale

He was famously called "The Gloved One," and now anyone can slip their hand into one of only two Michael Jackson electric-white gloves that could sell in the six figures that Michael Jackson wore during the Jackson’s 1984 Victory tour, an auctioneer said on Tuesday.

"I estimate (the value) at $60,000 to $80,000, but it could sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars," Maddalena said, noting the fervor over items owned by the King of Pop due to his death could easily push the price up.

The “Suit of Lights” glove is festooned with bugle beads and Austrian crystal rhinestones, and is fitted with 50 small lights. The electric–white glove, which was consigned by glove designer Ted Shell, gets its power from single 9 volt battery placed in the cuff. The auction house said that the King of Pop presented this illuminating glove to Ted Shell in 1986. The buyer of the glove will also receive a signed letter of authenticity by Shell and a signed letter by Judie Mallen of L.A. Marquee Special Lighting Effects. In fact, a recent sale by Julien's Auctions of 21 items of Jackson memorabilia brought in more than $200,000. One painting with an estimated sales value of $1,500 sold for $20,000, according to Julien.
The auction house has plans to showcase the iconic piece of “The Gloved One” at its booth at Comic Con, so that his fans can see it up close. The white glove is just one of many Jackson items that will be auctioned off on October 1 and 2, 2009. Recently, 21 items of Jackson memorabilia fetched over $200,000 at Julien’s Auctions.
